The Department of Health (SMS), through the Center for Medical Specialties (CEM), will promote, this Thursday (09/05), at 1 pm, the lecture “Living with Lupus”, with the rheumatologist, Ana Rivia Young. The moment takes place in reference to the International Day of Care for People with Lupus and will be held at the Visconde de Saboia School of Public Health.
The event, aimed mainly at doctors and nurses in Primary Health Care (PHC), will offer valuable moments on how to deal with Lupus in everyday clinical life, covering everything from understanding the symptoms to the most effective management strategies.
In addition to health professionals, patients with Lupus will be able to participate, providing them with the opportunity to better understand their condition and learn how they can actively collaborate in their own treatment.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes defense cells to attack healthy cells in the body, which can cause inflammation in various parts of the body, especially joints, skin, kidneys, bone marrow, heart, lungs, eyes and brain.
Although there is no cure, there are some treatments recommended by specialist doctors that help alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life, and the use of anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroids or immunosuppressants may be recommended.
