If you noticed a difference in the taste of food and drink, even though you normally eat the dishes you usually make and don’t change the usual seasonings, the problem may not be with your taste. A bad, metallic, bitter or sour taste in the mouth may be linked to sinusitis.
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the mucous membranes in the facial region, around the nose, eyes and cheekbones, which causes headache, sensation of pressure, difficulty breathing, fever, cough and even muscle pain, among other symptoms.
According to information from Hospital Paulista, a reference in throat, nose and ear health, inflammation of the cavities around the nose, also called ‘paranasal sinuses’, affects the throat, tongue and can also change the taste of food. This occurs, according to Hospital Paulista, due to the “accumulation of nasal secretions that run into the throat”.
It is said that when the nasal cavities are inflamed, a secretion can accumulate and if not drained properly, can result in an unpleasant liquid collecting in the back of the throat. The reason, according to the specialist, is due to the accumulation of nasal secretions that run into the throat.
Many people, however, end up confusing the situation with bad breath and seek a remedy with brushing, toothpaste and mouthwash. Sometimes you even blame the taste of the food at the new restaurant or even a poorly washed glass.
The advice is, if you are affected by sinus problems and have suffered persistent taste interference, the recommended treatment is to seek out an otorhinolaryngologist, who will take the necessary measures to prevent the problem.
