Coimbra welcomes 2023 in the heart of downtown, with lots of music and entertainment, on a night that also includes a majestic fireworks show. Everything is ready for the longest and happiest night of the year.
Everything is ready for one of the biggest parties in the country. New Year’s Eve in Coimbra 2022 is expected to attract thousands of people to the heart of the city. And there is no shortage of reasons for everyone to join in what is already one of the most famous events and one of the most popular at national level. The poster brings together eclectic and very appetizing proposals, in a program that combines musical projects of great quality and that was thought to please everyone.
There will be eight and a half hours of consecutive music (from 9:30 pm to 6:00 am), three stages spread across downtown, eight concerts, numerous musical styles, a fireworks show that this year will be apotheosis, as it features new and more impactful elements fireworks – large-scale lettering drawing the phrase “Welcome to the New Year” in the skies, filling the city’s skies with color and brightness. All shows are free admission.
Moreover, the spotlight will be centered on the long-awaited Gipsy Kings by Tonino Baliardo – member and founder of the band. Recognized worldwide for great hits such as “Bamboleo”, “Djobi Djoba”, “Baila Me” and “Volare”, themes that were hits all over the world. The Gipsy Kings have sold more than 60 million albums and have lost count of the number of awards won, in addition to gold, platinum and diamond discs.
The party starts at 9.30 pm on the Portagem stage, with a performance by the entertainers Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, followed by the mythical band Per7ume that will transport us to the last minutes of this year. At the end of the first two performances of the night, comes the always emotional countdown to the transition of the year, which will be accompanied by a countdown displayed on the led screens of the main stage.
The entry into 2023 is marked with a great fireworks display and, right after, the party is on account of the Gipsy Kings. The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang djs will return to the stage at 01:45 am, ending the performance at 04:00 am.
The party takes place well into the night on other stages as well. Simultaneously, performances are taking place at Praça do Comércio and at Praça 8 de Maio. The dj from Coimbra, Code, opens the stage at Praça do Comércio at 00:15, and the most anticipated moment in this place is the performance of Insert Coin, a project that currently shakes the stages from north to south of the country and which has the performance by the presenter of SIC, João Paulo Sousa.
When 03:00 strikes, it’s the turn of another dj from Coimbra to get the audience dancing – KY-MO, who performs for an hour and a half. The stage at Praça do Comércio ends at 4:30 am.
The third stage, where Rui Tomé and Luís Pinheiro – also DJs from Coimbra – give life to Revival Music (music from the 80s and 90s) opens at 00:15 and closes at 06:00.
