UAn 84-year-old British woman was, this Friday, rescued by the Portuguese Navy, after having suffered a heart attack aboard the cruise ship MS IONA (MMSI: 232025845) flying the United Kingdom, which was sailing at about 30 miles, approximately 55 kilometers, west of Cape Sines.
In a statement, the Navy said that the alert was received at the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa) at around 10:42 am, through a call made by the cruise ship, which reported that a passenger had suffered a heart attack, even though he was in stable condition.
Therefore, “the Guidance Center for Urgent Patients at Sea (CODUMAR) was informed, which carried out the assessment of the victim via telephone call with the passenger ship”, as well as the Captaincy of the Port of Lisbon, which “promptly carried out the activation a speedboat from the Salva-Vidas Station to disembark the passenger”.
After the rescue, which took place at 6:30 pm near the VTS tower in Algés, on the Tagus River, the woman was transported by INEM to a hospital unit.
