Adherence to this Friday’s strike in the civil service is being high, with many schools closed and hospitals operating at minimum, according to the Common Front, which called for the strike.

“At this time there is still not much concrete data, but the information we have is that the hospitals are fulfilling the minimum services, namely in hospitalizations and emergencies. Some schools are closed and a Citizen’s Store in Porto is closed”, he told the journalists the coordinator of the Common Front, Sebastião Santana, shortly after 9:00 am.

The trade unionist, who was speaking to journalists at the entrance to the Social Security building in Lisbon, underlined that this membership “shows the dissatisfaction of workers with the entire labor situation.

The national strike by civil servants, which started at 00:00 this Friday, began at the entrance of the night shift for workers in the areas of health and solid urban waste collection (domestic waste), who are thus the first to enter strike.

Among the reasons for the strike called by the Common Front are the demand for immediate salary increases, the setting of maximum limits for the prices of goods and services, the valuation of careers and the reinforcement of public services.

In the education sector, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) announced this week that teachers and educators will participate in the strike, while non-teaching workers are covered by the prior notice of the Common Front.

For Saturday, a national demonstration is scheduled in Lisbon, promoted by the CGTP, for the general increase in wages and pensions in view of the rise in the cost of living.
