BAHR & Terrace, by Nuno Dinis, located on the fifth floor of the Bairro Alto Hotel, entered the category of restaurants recommended by the Michelin Guide for the first time. In the debut edition in Portugal, whose gala took place in the Algarve, in Albufeira, last Tuesday night, 21 new restaurants had direct access to this category, including the gastronomic space of what is the first five-star boutique hotel in Portugal. capital.

Essentially Portuguese products and Japanese techniques are at the origin of BAHR & Terrace, where small producers have a guaranteed place in the kitchen and at the table. The preference is reflected in the different gastronomic moments, from brunch served on holidays and weekends to the lunch menu, including the “Specials of the Month”, and dinner, where the experience is haute cuisine.

Smoked barnacle toast, in the “Snacks”, grilled squid, green beans, greens and seaweed, in the “Starters”, and also Carabineiro Rice, in the “Main Dishes”, are some of the examples of what is worked with rigor in the famous cuisine open to the dining room, which rivals the attention of the Lisbon landscape. The desserts, like all the sweets developed at the Bairro Alto Hotel, are made together with pastry chef Maria Ramos.

The wine list includes proposals with little intervention and others that are more classic, marking a journey through the different regions of the country and looking at the best that is done across borders. Between sparkling wines and champagnes, still and fortified wines, there are more than 100 references.

Sustainability and ecological footprint are in evidence at BAHR & Terrace. And at the table the primacy of Portuguese brands is clear: Cutipol, Studio Neves and Costa Nova are some examples. The style of BAHR & Terrace is contemporary, informal and elegant, with brass, marble, wood and cement being part of this atmosphere. The designer furniture includes some vintage pieces: from benches by Valentin Loellmann to chairs by Brazilian designer Jader Almeida. The restaurant still breathes the bohemian and irreverent aura of the artists who left their mark on the city that surrounds it.

BAHR & Terrace’s entry into the illustrious Michelin Guide marks the beginning of 2024, after last year the hotel that hosts it was triple recognized: it received the titles “Europe’s Leading Landmark Hotel” and “World’s Leading Landmark Hotel”, by World Travel Awards, and the “Readers’ Choice Awards” seal, from the renowned Condé Nast Traveler.
