Russian activist in Portugal calls for mobilization to vote against Putin

-

Timofey Bugaevsky, from the Free Russians Association, who spoke during the gathering that took place today at the Russian embassy in Lisbon in honor of Alexei Navalny, stressed that “campaigning is more important than voting”.

“Without your personal campaign against Putin, your personal vote against him makes little sense. And it only makes sense when as many people around you (two, five, ten) know that you are against it, they vote against Putin and the war and call everyone”, highlighted the activist.

In addition to the appeal to call on people to vote against the Russian head of state, this activist also publicized the “Noon against Putin” action, which urges all people who intend to vote against Vladimir Putin to vote at 12:00 during the elections.

“It perfectly combines all the components. The vote, the campaign for action, the physical presence and solidarity with those who will be with you at the polling station at that time”, he highlighted.

Timofey Bugaevsky stressed that the action cannot be prevented and is “available to everyone and everywhere”.

Regarding possible reprisals, Bugaevsky asked: “What can be done? Close the polling stations at 12:00? Organize a counter-action “at 10 in the morning for Putin”? Register everyone who came at noon and place them them on the list of unreliable people? So, at noon, voter turnout is already high, there are a lot of people and it is simply impossible to highlight those who vote ‘against'”.

Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) registered four candidates: Putin; Communist Party representative Nikolay Kharitonov; the ultranationalist Leonid Slutsky; and the representative of the Gente Nova party, Vladislav Davankov.

Although he publicly assured that he would not do so, Putin amended the Constitution in 2020 to allow him to be re-elected, which he could do again in six years and thus remain in the Kremlin until 2036.

The Russian presidential elections take place between March 15th and 17th.

In a demonstration scheduled for the day of Alexei Navalny’s funeral ceremonies, the Portugal-based activist stressed that the best way to honor the Russian activist’s legacy is to continue the fight against the Kremlin regime.

Russian Maria Alandarenko also highlighted, in a speech during the rally, that “it is difficult” to accept Navalny’s death, remembering that the opponent will continue to be an “example, a guide and an inner compass”.

“The whole world now looks at your talent and your legacy, at the hundreds of thousands of real people with whom you generously shared your faith, your indomitability, your determination, your desire to live, your curiosity and your love, and for whom, I would very much like to think so, your sacrifice will not be in vain”, he assured.

A declared critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime and charismatic defender of the fight against corruption, Navalny died at the age of 47 under circumstances that are still unclear.

Prison services said he suffered a sudden collapse after a walk in the Arctic penal colony where he was serving a 19-year sentence for extremism and the death certificate mentions a natural cause.

His supporters, widow Yulia Navalnaia and many Western leaders accuse Putin of being responsible for Navalny’s death.

The Russian presidency denied these accusations.
