Former President of the Republic Cavaco Silva called this Saturday for a vote in the AD, warning that opting for “extremist protest parties” will only contribute to electing the socialist leader, Pedro Nuno Santos, who says he has no profile for prime minister.

In an article published in the newspaper Correio da Manhã, Aníbal Cavaco Silva argues that “only the AD can guarantee political stability” and that “its leader, Luís Montenegro, is much closer to what the qualities and behavior of a first -minister”.

“The AD program was prepared by an excellent team. If applied with determination and courage, it creates conditions for a sustainable increase in the purchasing power of salaries and pensions and for resolving the country’s social problems”, he maintains.

On the contrary, he counters, “voting for extremist protest parties only contributes to the nomination of the PS leader as prime minister, with all the negative consequences for the country and the living conditions of its citizens.”

Regarding the profile of Pedro Nuno Santos, the former head of state considers that “no […] “minimally complies” with what “the qualities and behavior of a prime minister must be for the Government to be successful”.

Additionally, Cavaco Silva guarantees that he has “enough information to understand the lies with which the PS has sought to deceive and deceive voters”.

“The country needs a new economic policy”, he argues, highlighting that “it is an illusion and a mistake to think that it is possible to solve the serious social problems that Portugal faces without structural reforms”.

Accusing the PS of having wasted “many millions of support from the European Union” and “an absolute majority in less than two years”, the former President of the Republic and social-democratic Prime Minister accuses the “PS propaganda machine” of being “capable of anything to deceive the Portuguese”, now multiplying “in announcements of benefits and promises”.

“The Democratic Alliance (AD) coalition is the only alternative to the socialist government for all voters who aspire to a better future for Portugal”, argues Cavaco. “Any vote other than for the Democratic Alliance is wasting an opportunity for change”, he concludes.
