The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic today proposed measures to reduce the response time in court, including the introduction of moderate fees for filing complaints, considering the end of the investigation phase and limiting the suspensive effect of appeals.

At the close of the XIII Congress of the Union of Public Prosecutor’s Magistrates (SMMP), taking place in Ponta Delgada, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic (Deputy PGR), Carlos Adérito Teixeira, listed a series of measures to make justice more fast and agile, namely the introduction of moderate access fees, similar to what already happens in the National Health Service.

“It seems to me that it would have some effect to institute a moderate fee for the presentation of criminal complaints. I think he held more responsibility and did not present complaints for any and all reasons, a momentary appetite. Although I am in favor of reducing costs, at least in some areas, here I think it would be justified,” he said.

The deputy PGR explained that the cost could be low, in the order of five euros, but it would help to avoid the presentation of “unfounded complaints” that end up involving moving the judicial machinery, particularly the Public Ministry.
