The best flavors of the Oliveira do Hospital Gastronomic Menu are presented at the table of more than two dozen restaurants, as part of the Gastronomy Week, an event that takes place from Friday, the 15th, to the 22nd of March and which precedes the Festa do Serra da Estrela cheese.

Oliveira do Hospital Gastronomy Week puts the best flavors on the table, and in the center of attention, by promoting the region’s gastronomy, which can be enjoyed in 22 participating restaurants, located from north to south of the municipality.

This initiative, organized by the City Council, with the support of ADI – Agency for the Integrated Development of Tábua e Oliveira do Hospital, as part of the Festa do Queijo Serra da Estrela de Oliveira do Hospital, which takes place on the 23rd and 24th of March, aims, says the president of the Municipality, José Francisco Rolo, to “stimulate the economy and generate attractiveness in the restaurant sector”, through gastronomic tourism.

At the same time, reinforces José Francisco Rolo, “we also want to create another opportunity to invite people to come and discover our region, through our flavors and the authenticity of quality local products, since the stage where it is possible to enjoy these flavors is , in fact, the restaurant sector”.

Another of the objectives of Gastronomy Week is the dissemination and promotion of the Oliveira do Hospital Gastronomy Charter, after the “success” achieved in February, with the holding of the first edition of the Lamb Festival.

Gastronomic Menu

The Oliveira do Hospital Gastronomic Charter, adds the president of the Municipality, “was born from interesting work”, carried out “with great criteria and method, in which it was possible to compile and organize menus that result from traditional knowledge and dishes”.

Dishes such as lamb with browned potatoes and greens, fresh lamb rice, lamb stew, suã rice, cracklings, cod tibornada, trout with ham, rice pudding, carolos, bowlada, sponge cake, marmalade, pumpkin jam with cottage cheese and Serra da Estrela cheese, accompanied by Dão wines, are part of the Oliveira do Hospital Gastronomic Menu.

In addition to these delicacies, there is a vast and complementary range of products and flavors, prepared through recipes that range from the most traditional methods to the most contemporary proposals from the restaurant spaces participating in the initiative.

The restaurants Albergaria do Choupal, Casa Portuguesa, Cristina, Il Pecato, João Brandão – Hotel Rural Quinta da Geia, L’Artista, Laranja Azul, O Cantinho, O Dinis, O Gouveia, O Leque, O Terreiro, OhLá, Olea – Museu do Azeite, Olhar Sobre o Alva, Panela de Ferro, Paraíso da Beira, Pedro´s, Quinta do Siso, Roots – Aqua Village Resort & Spa, Tasquinha do Marques and Vinha do Vale.

In addition to the appreciation of gastronomic heritage, the challenge for this week is also, according to the councilor responsible for Tourism at the City Council, Graça Brito, to invite “visitors to taste the wonders of the municipality, stay overnight in local accommodation and come get to know our landscapes, the rivers, the monuments, the hiking trails and the villages and towns of the municipality.
