Nacional’s main football team and the remaining entourage will have to remain in the Azores until Monday morning following the cancellation of the flight to Lisbon, where the black and white team would board another flight to return to Madeira. The loss of this last connection means that the return home will only happen late tonight.

“The entourage of the CD Nacional professional football squad is stranded on the Azorean island of São Miguel, after the airline Azores Airlines canceled flight S44012 to Lisbon, causing them to miss the next connecting flight, towards Funchal. ”, reads the statement published on the club’s official website late Sunday night.

“Due to the breakdown, the airline canceled this Sunday’s flight to the capital and forced the nationalist delegation to spend another night on the Azorean island. The new flight to Lisbon is scheduled for 09:00 on the 17th, and the air connection to Funchal will only take place at 21:10, with the natural inconvenience it will cause to the entire team”, explains the same note.

Remember that Nacional played this Sunday at Santa Clara’s home, having won the match 0-1.
