Municipality of Barcelos celebrates Family Week

The Municipality of Barcelos will promote, from the 13th to the 19th of May, the program “Afetos em Palco”, an initiative that falls within the scope of the celebration of Family Week. During the program, various socio-educational and cultural actions will be carried out on themes such as affection, love, union, intergenerationality, interculturality, inclusion, health and healthy lifestyles.
This initiative, aimed at the entire community, takes place in municipal facilities and in schools and institutions in the territory with projects in this area. It happens in the context of proximity work, programs and social responses, support and appreciation of families, which the Municipality has been developing, in order to correspond to the priorities of the municipality’s community.
This year’s Family Week program includes, among other actions, a cycle of meetings, activities open to the family, gatherings and peddy-papers.
It is worth remembering that the Municipality of Barcelos, in the context of family policies, has been distinguished in recent years with the “Autarchy + Family-Responsible” award, awarded by the Observatory of Family-Responsible Local Authorities. Currently, the Municipality of Barcelos is also part of the European Network of Family-Friendly Authorities.

Complete program
From May 13th to 17th – “Affects on Stage” Meeting Cycle, in schools in the municipality of Barcelos, with sessions on the topic, involving the educational community and the participation of entities in the territory in the presentation of good practices.
May 16th – Meeting “Family, Affects, Mental Health”, at 9pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of Paços do Concelho, with the participation of guest speakers to develop the theme: António Tomé, from Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António; Célia Barbosa, from the Christian Social Action Group; Eduardo Duque, from the Portuguese Catholic University; Joaquina Castelão, from FamiliarMente – Portuguese Federation of Associations of Families of People with Experience of Mental Illness.
May 18th (Saturday) – Meeting at Theatro Gil Vicente, at 9:30 am, (welcome to participants).
Peddy-Paper Affections on Stage
Peddy-Paper takes place in the Historic Center of Barcelos. Participants will have the opportunity to visit monuments and cultural spaces with their family, on a route full of challenges and dynamics, in the company of Banda Plástica de Barcelos. The welcome for participants is scheduled for 9:30 am, at Theatro Gil Vicente.
Through creative challenges, family ties are promoted and knowledge of Barcelos’ heritage is deepened.
At the end of the Peddy-Paper, a snack will be held among all participating families.
Municipal equipment open to the family
Promote family access to municipal actions and equipment, valuing the Municipality’s activity as a “Family Responsible Local Authority”.
