The XIX International Camellia Festival took thousands of people to Celorico de Basto this weekend to watch the activities taking place.

Quinta do Prado was the epicenter of the party. “We couldn’t be more satisfied, it was an intense weekend with thousands of people visiting this municipality and enjoying all the actions carried out”, said José Peixoto Lima, president of Celorico de Basto City Council.

“We have a unique and united community in pursuit of the same objective, making this natural and cultural heritage the greatest reference of this municipality in the world, a path that we are following with pride and dedication. This international visibility, with the presence of visitors of various nationalities, with the growing participation of Spaniards in the activities promoted, is a source of great pride for us, especially due to the way they are pleased and enchanted with our celebration”, added the mayor.

Sunday was the day that attracted the most visitors to the municipality to see up close the activities promoted, with emphasis on the battle of flowers.

The camellia exhibition/contest was attended by 51 exhibitors, 23 of which were foreigners. The fashion parade for the election of the Queen and camellia princesses crowned Marta Leite as queen, Cláudia Lopes was elected the 1st lady of honor and Viviana Costa the 2nd Lady of Honor.

35 murals developed by Parish Councils, associations and communities were on display. The camellia market had several exhibitors selling products derived from camellias and highlighted endogenous products such as green wine.
