The IV edition of the International Youth Dance Festival, Lugar Futuro, takes place this week, on the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th of March, in Viseu.

In its 4th edition, the LUGAR FUTURO festival returns in 2024 in March, to celebrate spring with dance and promote the work of young creators and performers, both in the premiere of new national and foreign choreographic works, as well as for the presentation of first works by emerging choreographers, in a program that is divided between Teatro Viriato and the IPDJ Auditorium, with financial help from the municipality of Viseu, among many other public and private supports.

The four-day program, with artistic direction by Leonor Keil, consists of the presentation of shows, films, masterclasses and conversations with the public, with a view to exchanging experiences between participating creators and performers, joined by students and teachers from national and foreign dance schools, in a live sharing environment with the public in the city of Viseu and also all over the world in format live streaming.

One of the highlights of this edition’s program are two premieres, one by Chen Nadler, in co-production with the festival, the choreographer selected by the public in the third edition, and a piece by choreographer Joana Providência for Presente – Companhia de Dança Jovem ( Viseu).

Another structuring moment is the presentation of a set of works entitled “first works”. A selection of six pieces written by young Portuguese and foreign choreographers, from a range of more than 170 applications from 32 countries, which promises to surprise with the diversity, quality and freshness of the proposals.

The festival also has, for the first time, a partnership with the InShadow video-dance festival which, in collaboration with the Cineclube de Viseu, presents a selection of award-winning short films in 2023. And it continues to count on the partnership of the School Superior of Dance, which this year shows works by undergraduate and master’s students, in addition to the partnership of Balleteatro do Porto and the Conservatório de Dança de Murcia, which debuts in Viseu.
