Five short films created by around 100 students, from five groups of schools in the Portalegre district, will be shown at the Alto Cinema Festival, which takes place on Friday in that Alentejo city, it was announced today.

The festival, which will take place at the Centro de Artes e do Espetáculo de Portalegre (CAEP), from 10:30, will feature the participation of students from the 3rd cycle of school groups in Avis, Campo Maior, Arronches, Monforte and Portalegre (José Régio School Group).

Speaking to the Lusa agency, the project manager for educational and cultural services publisher Cabeçudos, Rui Andrade, explained that this initiative is part of the students’ curriculum, with several training sessions on cinema having taken place before filming.

“At the beginning there were workshops, a cinema theory class, then two writing sessions (script), a pre-production workshop where tasks are distributed, namely who is the director, the cameraman, the camera assistant, sound designer, choice of actors, all the necessary functions until we get to filming”, he explained.

The five short films that will be presented at the festival will cover various themes, such as heritage, organ trafficking, envy, blood donation and another related to a love story.

“There are a variety of things, that’s what they wanted. The short films that have to do with envy and organ trafficking are really dramatic,” she highlighted.

The Alto Cinema Festival has the support of the National Cinema Plan, the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the National Program for the Promotion of School Success.

Rui Andrade also recalled that the Alto Cinema Festival is an educational service created by Cabeçudos, when it was set up in Castelo de Vide, in 2019.
