Young people’s happiness has been falling, although Central and Eastern Europe continues to present the best levels of happiness.

Released this Wednesday, March 20th, the World Happiness Report (World Happiness Report, in Portuguese) puts the Finland in first position as the happiest country on the planet. This study, sponsored by United Nations Organization (UN), also shows that there was a decrease in happiness levels among younger people.

As for Portugalis found in Top 50 happiest countries of the world, occupying the 56th position.

According to the report, the Nordic countries continue to occupy the podium of this ranking, remaining in top positions, however, the highlight is given to Finland which, for the seventh consecutive time, comes back in first place.

At the bottom of the list are countries with Afghanistan, Lebanon, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Congo, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and Eswatini, occupying the last ten places.

On the other hand, in the first half of the classification of ranking our country is positioned and, almost 20 places below, Spainpositioned in 32nd place.

For the first time, the World Happiness Report ranking separates happiness by agepresenting the state of mind of the youngest to the oldest segments, making it possible to determine that, the more advanced the age, the greater the tendency for the level of happiness to decrease.

As for young people, it is in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe that people are happiest.s, contrasting with the happiness levels of young people living in North America, Western Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, where levels showed a decrease.

This trend, in young people aged between 10 and 15 years old, can be explained by the satisfaction with life, especially among young women, and the impact that social networks have had on these people’s daily lives. Other influencing factors are the lack of affordable housing, increasing loneliness, poor prospects and the current economic climate.
