A Public Security Police (PSP) of Madeira arrested – outside of the act of committing a crime – a 55-year-old man for aggravated robbery and robbery. In a statement, the authority explains that the arrest resulted from an investigation into alleged crimes of theft, qualified theft and robbery, “mainly in commercial establishments”, in the municipality of Santa Cruz, “with a special focus on the parish of Camacha”.

The now detained man “is strongly suspected of being responsible for co-authoring a series of crimes against property that caused enormous alarm and social unrest in the aforementioned parish”, reads the information note.

In it, the PSP states that the “close coordination and cooperation with the Public Ministry at the Criminal Court of Santa Cruz” was “fundamental”.

This is because they allowed “the issuance of arrest warrants outside of flagrante delicto and the consequent presentation of the detainee before the Criminal Investigation Judge”.

Following his arrest and appearance before the judicial authorities, the coercive measure of preventive detention was applied to the man.
