Maintaining the gaming zone concession is “determining for the future”

The president of the Póvoa de Varzim City Council, Aires Pereira, argues that maintaining the gaming area concession is “determining for the future” of the city, and also for the “revitalization of historic areas and local commerce”.

On the sidelines of the inauguration of the Commercial Association’s 130th anniversary exhibition, and speaking about current affairs in the business and commercial sector, the mayor lamented that PRR funds were not channeled for the “remodeling of spaces, for the revitalization of historic areas and commerce local”. “There is little understanding of this”, he said, arguing that “it is necessary to intervene from the point of view of the rehabilitation of commercial areas, the rehabilitation of buildings”, applying the example of Rua da Junqueira.

He related this, on the other hand, to the end of the gaming area concession, scheduled for 2025: “it is crucial for the future of Póvoa de Varzim that we maintain the gaming area, and ensure that it also contributes money to carry out such renovation , which is necessary to attract people to local commerce”.

“It is, as you know, a desire of many other municipalities, in many other lands, to be able to ‘eat this cake’. But I think that it is in Póvoa de Varzim that the majority of the distribution of the money from this concession must continue to be centralized. Only in this way will we achieve critical mass that will allow us to renew and change everything that has to do with the effort that needs to be made with this third intervention law in our municipality and our city”, he stated.
