Students from Escola Básica e Secundária Dr. José Leite de Vasconcelos participated in an action commemorating World Tree Day

Students from Escola Básica e Secundária Dr. José Leite de Vasconcelos, in Tarouca, were invited this Thursday (March 21) to identify the trees planted on the school grounds.

The initiative was promoted by the local School Group and the City Council, to mark World Tree Day, celebrated today.

With this action, the two institutions wanted young people to deepen their knowledge about trees and raise awareness about the importance of preserving these native species and the environment.

Armed with identification plates, the students walked through the school’s green areas and cataloged the different trees they found.

Present at the initiative, the vice-president of the Chamber of Tarouca, José Damião Melo, highlighted the importance of young people getting involved in environmental preservation.

“It is crucial that young people understand the vital importance of trees for our planet. They are not only a source of oxygen, but they also play a fundamental role in regulating the climate and maintaining biodiversity. We must make trees our friends and take responsibility responsibility to protect and preserve them for future generations”, he said.
