Festival of Ribatejanas Soups starts today in the parish of Vale de Cavalos

After last year’s success, where more than 1,250 liters of soup were consumed and more than four thousand visitors were received, the Vale de Cavalos parish will receive from today, March 22nd, and until Sunday the 24th, another edition of Festival of Ribatejanas Soups, jointly organized between the Municipality of Chamusca and the Parish Council of Vale de Cavalos.

This event, which has been desired by the population of Valcavalense for a long time, as it portrays the parish, aims to promote and promote Ribatejo soups and counts on the collaboration of associations, communities and economic agents.

Over the three days of the Festival, around 13 varieties of typical Ribatejo soups will be served, including: lamb soup with green beans and watercress soup, respectively winners of 2nd and 3rd place in the 2023 edition, soup of rice with tripe, country weak soup, chicken soup, country soup (rubble), mushroom soup, village soup, cabbage with beans, green broth, fish soup and stone soup, grain soup with pasta, made with endogenous products from the municipality.

In addition to the soups, visitors will also be able to taste some snacks, such as alguidar meat, gizzards, bifanas, fried mackerel, scrambled eggs with farinheira and pica-pau.

The festival program also includes other activities, such as showcooking, livecooking, music shows and concerts, workshops, walks, local exhibitors, crafts, folklore and activities and games for children, with the presence of Agentes Vitamina.

Highlight is the showcooking with the participation of Chef José Maria Lino (Saturday, March 23rd at 12:30 pm), who will prepare river fish soup and roe. During the Soup Festival, there will also be other showcookings organized by some of the parishes in the municipality and by the Senior University of Vale de Cavalos, in which bean soup with cabbage, country-style green beans, green broth, rice soup with tripe will be prepared. and golden soup.

Today, musical entertainment is guaranteed with the group Los Chupitos (March 22), Saturday with the concert Siga a Farra (March 23) and on Sunday with the band Los Invictus & Amigos (March 24). The music promises to continue well into the night, with DJ Thiago Moita and DJ Vassalo, respectively on the 22nd and 23rd of March.

Considered the oldest dish in the world, the queen of this festival is usually served at the beginning of the main meals. However, for connoisseurs, the soup can even be the main dish, a highlight that is more than fair, given its high nutritional value.

In Portuguese gastronomy, soup has a prominent place and assumes its versatility, being able to be comfort on winter days, or refreshment on a hot summer day.

Soup is an invitation to the senses (through its smells, colors and textures), to the awakening of emotions (in the memories it contains) and to the adoption of a healthy diet (due to its known nutritional properties).

The gastronomic exhibition takes place at Largo de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios in Vale de Cavalos, from the 22nd to the 24th of March. Entry is free.
