Rui Barreto, regional secretary of Economy, said today, at the Used Car Market, that “Madeira can be proud of being perhaps the most recent park, in terms of registrations”.
Visiting the event, the government official stated that “the sector is alive and represents a significant weight in the creation of wealth and jobs”, and is also a sector that invests a lot in innovation and technology and that Madeirans like.
“It has been growing steadily”, he said, considering this a “very positive aspect” of the sector.
Barreto recalled the incentives for the acquisition of electric vehicles, introduced since 2019, by the Regional Government, something that has occurred since 2019 and will continue this year. The objective, he said, aims to continue a strategy of decarbonizing the economy.
At the used car fair, the official highlights the presence of more electric and hybrid cars, but says that for those who cannot opt for that type of vehicle, there are cars with low greenhouse gas emissions on offer.
He admits that there is some restraint on the part of consumers because of interest rates, but, as he began by saying, Madeirans maintain their interest in the sector.
