In the last days of December and the first days of January, amidst the almost incessant work at the construction site of the Circular Line of the Lisbon metro, in the Santos area, an image began to gain clarity. In a canal approximately 80 meters long, excavated just over ten meters deep and identified as “section 1D” by those responsible for archaeological monitoring of the works, several heritage elements were discovered proving the intense nautical activity in the area, in other times. . In this case, they would be from the last decades of the 18th century and the beginning of the following. Among them was a planked ramp providing access to a construction and repair yard for large boats, installed on the beach that once existed there, before it was covered by the Boavista Landfill, built between 1860 and 1867 and where it is now located. located on Avenida 24 de Julho.
