Health, housing, teachers and new airport in the transition portfolio that Costa handed over to Marcelo

António Costa handed Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, during the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, a 50-page document with the government’s transition portfolio, which will be shared with Luís Montenegro, who takes office as prime minister on April 2.

The document summarizes the eight years of socialist governance in 24 key areas, such as health, housing, teachers, railways, energy, education, European funds, and public administration and services, listing some of the “most relevant projects that are under development in the various government areas”.

The government provides an overview of the situation regarding European funds – within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, but not only –, revealing that 328 notices were launched within the scope of Portugal 2023, which provide more than five billion euros of community support .

As for the new airport, the government emphasizes that the decision on the location “can finally be taken by the government in office, at any time and based on the best technical information available”. It is recalled that the PSD set up an internal working group to analyze the location of the new Lisbon airport, after the António Costa government agreed to create the Independent Technical Commission to carry out the strategic environmental assessment.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa presided over this Council of Ministers at the invitation of António Costa. The meeting took place in the new government building, in the former Caixa Geral de Depósitos facilities, next to Campo Pequeno.

In the afternoon there will be a meeting of the conference of leaders, in the Assembly of the Republic, which will allow the 230 elected deputies to take office in parliament this Tuesday, the 26th. On Thursday, the 28th, Luís Montenegro presents Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to the government team, which will take office on April 2nd.
