Obstetric and gynecological emergency at Barreiro hospital with extraordinary closure until Thursday – Society

The obstetric and gynecological emergency service/delivery unit at Barreiro hospital, in the district of Setúbal, which was supposed to reopen this Monday, will remain closed until 8am on Thursday, according to the Local Health Unit.

This is the second extraordinary closure of the Gynecological Obstetric Emergency/Delivery Unit at that hospital during the month of March, after the same thing that also happened in February.

The Arco Ribeirinho Local Health Unit (ULSAR), which is part of the Barreiro/Montijo hospital and whose areas of influence are the municipalities of Alcochete, Barreiro, Moita and Montijo and a total of 236 thousand users, announced on its website social Facebook that the obstetric and gynecological emergency/delivery unit will remain closed until Thursday, without providing further explanation.

According to a decision by the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service, the obstetric and gynecological emergency/delivery unit closed at 08:00 on March 18th and should reopen this Monday from 08:00.

In the notice, ULSAR advises pregnant women to contact SNS 24 (808242424) before going to the hospital or to call 112 in emergency situations.

At the beginning of the year, the Executive Board announced the operating plan for these services, having determined that in the Setúbal Peninsula the birth block at the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Almada-Seixal (Hospital Garcia de Orta) will close at the end of week (Saturday and Sunday), while the birth blocks at ULS in Arco Ribeirinho (Hospital Barreiro-Montijo) and ULS in Arrábida (Centro Hospitalar de Setúbal) maintain temporary and rotating suspensions.

According to the scales determined following the plan, the birthing block at the Arrábida Local Health Unit (Setúbal) will be closed throughout this week, reopening only on April 1st.

At the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Almada-Seixal (Hospital Garcia de Orta), the service is open, closing only on weekends.
