As part of Fafe’s participation in the 19th Nanterre Fair and Exhibition, the president of the City Council, Antero Barbosa, promoted a meeting with representatives of the Fafen diaspora, the Portuguese State and the Portuguese community, based in the Paris region, coming from areas of economy, associations, culture and social communication, between March 22nd and 24th.

On the first day of the visit program, Fafe was welcomed into a festive atmosphere by Fafen emigrants from Nanterre. The first stop was at the pastry and bakery “Aux Delices du Palais”, owned by the Teixeira family, whose father was born in Fafe and after a long career won the award for the best baguette in Paris.

Antero Barbosa participated in the signing session of the cooperation protocol with the Franco Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an event that brought together Portuguese leaders and businesspeople to whom the development strategy recommended by the Municipality of Fafe was transmitted. Bilateral contacts on the first day of the mission in Paris included a working meeting with the Cap Magellan association, the main association of Portuguese descendants in France with which possibilities for cooperation aimed at younger people were discussed.

The Fafense representation also featured on this day the performance of the Women’s Group of Jogo do Pau from the Centro Cultural e Recreativo da Juventude de Cepães.

On Saturday, Antero Barbosa was received by the Portuguese Hermano Sanches Ruivo, Councilor of the Paris Chamber, with whom he held a courtesy meeting. The Portuguese diaspora settled in Paris focused the attention of the two mayors, given the size of the presence of Fafenses in the French capital.

In the same place, a meeting took place with Jean-Pierre Cruse, Adjoint à la Maire de Chilly-Mazarin, responsible for Culture and Twinning. In this parallel meeting, mutual efforts were deepened to establish bonds of cooperation and friendship. This was followed by a meeting with Diane Bourguignon, responsible for the Maire de Soisy-sous-Montmorency, another French municipality interested in establishing a friendship and exchange agreement with Fafe in the fields of culture and tourism.

On the last day of their presence in Paris, the Fafen delegation visited the company of the benefactor Manuel Pinto Lopes, who prepared a new donation of equipment for the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Fafe, and participated in the Festival of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, promoted by the Associação Cultura Portuguesa de Aulnays sous Bois, where the Women’s Group of Jogo do Pau from the Centro Cultural e Recreativo da Juventude Cepanense made a second showing.
