The PS councilor at Guarda City Council, Adelaide Campos, lamented today that one month before the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, Guarda was “missing” in the celebrations of the date.
The mayor considered at the municipal executive meeting, held this afternoon, that “it is sad that the Guard is not responding to the political and social demands” that the date of April 25th represents.
“It is very sad that the Guard is so silent”, said Adelaide Campos, highlighting that “most cities have already presented a consistent program”.
The Câmara da Guarda announced last year the creation of an honor committee and an executive committee to draw up a program to mark 50 years of the 25th of April in the municipality.
Adelaide Campos also criticized the fact that she found out “in a cafe” that a roundabout was being prepared in the city to receive a monument to the 25th of April.
“It is humiliating for a councilor not to know”, said the mayor before the meeting entered the Agenda.
The PS candidate accused the president of the Chamber, Sérgio Costa, elected by the Pela Guarda movement, of “sinning in relation to his obligation” to treat the municipality as “a democratic institution”.
“I wanted me and the PSD councilors to be part of the decisions and solutions. We are not available to be treated like useful idiots,” she maintained. “The President of the Chamber thinks he is the Guard, but the Guard is much more than him”, he pointed out to journalists after the meeting.
The PSD councilor, Carlos Chaves Monteiro, shared the criticisms of the socialist councilor, noting that “it was necessary to look at the opposition”, questioning whether a roundabout would be worth the investment of 106 thousand euros, as planned.
The president of the Chamber said that the program for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April will be presented in the first week of April. It guarantees that the program does not end on the 25th and that it should continue until April 2025.
Regarding the monument, Sérgio Costa regretted that the matter “has been exposed in public opinion without authorization from the City Council” and argued that “the executive does not have to inform everyone”. “This executive is in charge of governance”, he maintained.
At this Monday’s meeting, the municipal executive approved, however, the acquisition of two more buildings in ruins in the city’s Historic Center, worth 100 thousand euros and 70 thousand euros, to transform into housing, with a view to a candidacy to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
Still at the meeting, PSD councilor Carlos Chaves Monteiro announced that he will file a complaint “for slanderous accusation” against Sérgio Costa, for statements made regarding the transfer of the land of the former slaughterhouse to a company for the installation of a private hospital. and annulled by the current executive.
The decision was announced after the PSD elected official revealed that the Public Ministry filed the complaint filed by Sérgio Costa against the previous executive, which was led by Carlos Chaves Monteiro, because there were “legal doubts” regarding the land transfer process.
The PSD councilor admitted to agreeing with the way Sérgio Costa presented the matter in court, but criticizes his statements when he argues that it would be a “ruinous” deal for the municipality and the public treasury.
Today, the president of the Chamber reiterated this position and Carlos Chaves Monteiro argued that, given Sérgio Costa’s insistence, he cannot fail to take a position to protect himself “as a person, professional and politician”.
