The PéPedal active school mobility program, launched in November 2023 by Ciclaveiro – Associação pela Mobilidade Urbana em Bicicleta and which is being implemented for the first time in partnership with the Aveiro School Group, is now moving into a new phase. The new thing is the creation of the PéPedal Friends Network, with which the institution intends to «increase and value the relationship between active mobility and the local economy, in which everyone benefits».
The network consists of an open set of local establishments and projects in the city of Aveiro that «recognize the importance of active mobility and the benefits for citizens, health and the environment and the local economy».
These partners, explains Ciclaveiro, are committed to collaborating to promote these habits and to contribute «to a safer, more comfortable and child-friendly city», rewarding the efforts of children who, once a week, walk and cycling to school on the so-called PéPedal Trains.
These PéPedal Trains, which are part of Ciclaveiro’s active school mobility program, are made up of 12 active lines, of which nine are on foot and three by bicycle, for the four schools in the group. In total, to date, 1,015 trips have been made by children between 3 and 10 years of age, accompanied by volunteer parents who guide them and validate their trips through the PéPedal Pass.
