Afeathers two hours after the defeat suffered against Denmark (1-4), in the under-20s, in a private game played this Tuesday, the national under-19 team failed to qualify for the under-19 European Championship, losing to the Nordics (2-0), in Coimbra, also being left out of the race for the under-20 World Cup. A draw was enough, but the Portuguese did not avoid defeat.
After a goalless first half, the team led by José Lima knew that they were 45 minutes away from being able to celebrate, so they just needed to keep a clean sheet, until the 61st minute arrived.
Jorgensen did his thing and tried to put the Nordic team at an advantage, followed by the second goal, scored by Hojlund, in the 70th minute, practically leaving Portugal without a reaction.
With this result, Portugal finishes group 4 of the Elite Round, in qualifying for the 2024 Under-19 Europe, in second place, with six points, while Denmark achieved a full number of triumphs, with nine points out of a possible nine, in a group with Greece and Serbia (both defeated by Portugal and Denmark in the first two rounds).
Remember that the winners of the Elite Round groups (in this case, Denmark) join hosts Northern Ireland in the final phase of the under-19 Euro, which also serves as UEFA qualification for the under-19 World Cup. -20, 2025, in Chile.
