Defeat with Denmark in Coimbra eliminates the runners-up from this summer’s tournament.
The national under-19 team will not be present in the final phase of the European Championship after a defeat, this Tuesday afternoon, against Denmark.
A draw was enough in the game that took place in Coimbra, but the national team lost 2-0. Jorgensen opened the scoring in the 61st minute and, in the 70th, Emil Hojlund closed the score.
After beating Serbia and Greece, Denmark and Portugal entered the match on equal terms, but the corner team had an advantage in goal difference, which is why they only needed a draw.
“My reaction is frustration because we had the goal of going to the European Championship. We have to congratulate Denmark, who ended up winning and deserving of the victory. We were not the team we intended to be. Now we have to work for the future”, said selector José Lima.
Portugal is runner-up in the competition title. The last edition took place last summer and the team only lost in the final to Italy.
The final phase of the Under-19 European Championship will take place in Northern Ireland, from 15th to 28th July.
