Funchal PDM will increase housing construction at controlled costs

Funchal is moving forward with the revision of the Municipal Master Plan and with three detailed plans in the area of ​​urban rehabilitation. Ornelas, Encarnação and Carmo, as mentioned by the president of Funchal City Council after the weekly council meeting, the last of the month and, therefore, public.

In the case of these three plans, Cristina Pedra said there are “three large areas located in the center”, with 20,000m2, 28,000m2 and 19,000m2, respectively, and the municipality’s objective is the “requalification of these areas, with concrete ideas already in place, such as such as the meeting of pedestrian paths”.

The president added that the opening of these procedures and changes takes place after the completion and approval of the REOT – State of Spatial Planning Report.

Cristina Pedra also recalled that “a period of public discussion follows, of collecting contributions” from citizens, which can also be made online, “and it is good that they do so”, with 30 days for contributions to the review of the PDM and 20 for the plans.

Regarding the revision of the PDM, the mayor highlighted that one of the revisions that the municipality intends to make is to implement «the increase in housing construction at controlled costs and in an economical way, which, as she highlighted, aims to respond to housing challenges, increasing the ofert.

The opening of 31 vacancies for internships, in various areas, in the municipality was also approved, with 605 thousand euros being also approved in social support and education, «namely scholarships for students», which benefited 308 students, with support of 240 thousand euros , but also 100 thousand euros in rental subsidies for 48 people, plus birth and family support, at 20 thousand euros, for 52 families.

Also highlighted was the approval of support for reimbursement in the purchase of medicines worth 245 thousand euros, covering 730 citizens.

The president of the Chamber reiterated the substantial growth that the municipality has made, since 2021, in strengthening social support and also in education.
