It seems that the above average temperatures for this time of year were short-lived sunshine. A cold depression associated with a maritime polar air mass, coming from Greenland, is traveling across the Atlantic and bringing “Winter” back to Portugal. In Lisbon, you start to feel the difference on Thursday, April 25th, with cloudy skies and lots of wind. From Friday the 26th, the minimum temperature drops to 12ºC (on Sunday it even reaches 9ºC) and it rains again, in principle until the following Thursday, May 2nd.

According to Alfredo Graça, geographer and specialist at the meteorological information project Meteored, an Atlantic depression is coming, “born” south of Greenland, which is moving “dizzily” towards the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. “It is possible that it will be classified as a major depression, in which case it will be given a name. If this happens, it will be the storm Sanchothe next name on the official list pre-determined by the Southwest European Meteorological Services.”

On the website of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the descriptive forecast for Thursday, he anticipates, for Greater Lisbon, “sky with periods of great cloudiness”. On the same note, the moderate wind also stands out, “sometimes blowing strong (up to 45 km/h) and with gusts of up to 60 km/h until late morning, especially near Cabo Raso”, as well as the drop in temperature maximum. From Friday onwards, there will be “periods of rain or showers on the coast of the North and Center regions [inclusive na capital portuguesa]”, which IPMA weather forecasts confirm for next ten days. Except for Saturday, the 27th, and Monday, the 29th, São Pedro will not give a truce.
