To celebrate the centenary, the Portuguese Skating Federation (FPP) took advantage of the Tournament of Nations, commonly known as the Mountreux tournament, to publicize the new equipment of the national roller hockey team. Although the jerseys are designed for the sport, the design integrates ideas and elements from all of FPP’s foundations.

«The pattern is the result of the combination of elements transversal to skating (wheels), those specific to the disciplines (sticks, skateboard, wheels) and the illustration of artistic movements», reads, in a note sent to the newsrooms.

As for details, the equipment reveals, in the center, the years of the European and world titles for senior men and women. At the same time, the colors are a reference to the tones worn by the first European and World champion national team, in 1947.

As for the Tournament of Nations, Paulo Freitas’ team has Ângelo Girão (Sporting) and Xano Edo (Oliveirense) between the posts. On the back line will be Nuno Santos (Oliveirense), Xavier Cardoso (Oliveirense) and Hélder Nunes (FC Porto).

For the wings, Gonçalo Alves (FC Porto), Rafa Costa (FC Porto) and João Souto (Sporting) were elected. Finally, the pivots are João Rodrigues (Barcelona) and Gonçalo Pinto (Benfica). Precisely in this position the “extremes” in terms of internationalizations are reached.

If João Rodrigues, aged 33, has played 127 games for Portugal, Gonçalo Pinto, in turn, has played 21 games at the age of 27. In any case, the youngest of the group is guardian Xano Edo, aged 22.

Portugal makes its debut this Wednesday night in the Tournament of Nations, against hosts Switzerland. The match is scheduled for 8pm. At the same time this Thursday and Friday, Portugal will face France and Spain. The “semi-finals” and the final of the race will take place this Saturday and Sunday.
