For the PCP this reality only happens “due to the unfair distribution of wealth”, adding that in the Region “around 56% of total wealth is in the hands of 5% of the Madeiran population, while at national level 42% of total wealth is in the hands of hands of 5% of the Portuguese population”.

The PCP Madeira considered it not fair for those who work to be below the poverty line due to job insecurity and low wages, during the “Força de Abril” campaign, which took the party force to Empresa Horários do Funchal, for a contact action with the workers.

“It is in the Autonomous Region of Madeira where there is a higher rate of workers at risk of poverty. There are 15.2%, that is, more than 19 thousand Madeirans, even though they work eight or more hours a day, the income they take home is not enough to meet the needs of their families. It is not fair for those who work to be below the poverty line due to job insecurity and low wages. It’s not fair that whoever is responsible for creating the Region’s wealth becomes poorer by working”, said PCP deputy, Ricardo Lume.

For Ricardo Lume this reality only happens “due to the unfair distribution of wealth”, adding that in the Region “around 56% of total wealth is in the hands of 5% of the Madeiran population, while at national level 42% of total wealth is in the hands of hands of 5% of the Portuguese population”.

The PCP deputy considered it necessary to have “a new policy that guarantees a fair distribution of wealth, that combats low wages and job insecurity”.
