Holy Week began last Sunday, March 24. In Lisbon, this Thursday, the new Patriarch, Rui Valério, presides for the first time over the celebrations of the Pascal Triduum, which take place in the Cathedral and begin the set of three days that, according to the Bible, evoke the Passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. It is precisely during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which will begin at 7pm, that, while the Glory by Vivaldi, the bells will be heard for the last time before two days of silence. They are only heard again between Saturday and Sunday.

For the Catholic Church, according to the Ecclesia Agency, the so-called Holy Saturday is the day of “great silence”, which precedes the feast of the Easter Vigil, a central moment in the liturgical calendar which, in the Cathedral of Lisbon, will begin at 9.30 pm. Already close to midnight on Saturday, the bells and the Glory they will make themselves heard again, as the communications office of the Patriarchate of Lisbon confirmed to Time Out. But on Friday, March 29th, during the Celebration of the Passion, which begins at 3pm, there will also be silence.

“It should be noted that, on the morning of the 29th and 30th of March, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, respectively, there will also be a Reading Office and Lauds Hour, starting at 10.00”, reads a statement from the Patriarchate of Lisbon . On the same note, it is said that, on Easter Sunday, Rui Valério will preside over the Easter Pontifical, at 11:30.
