Presentation of ColorAdd results

More than 400 students, from 25 schools in Lousada, were covered by color blindness screening. Calling ‘ColorAdd’, this is a project developed five years ago, which aims to “contribute to the construction of an inclusive school environment and raise awareness among the population about color blindness”, explains the municipality.

Students from the 1st cycle of Basic Education, public and private, were covered, using the “Ishiara Test” to screen for color blindness, the Snellen Table and the Visiotest for visual acuity, with Casa dos Óculos, Ergovision, Good Image Optics and Multioptics..

Of the students screened, 216 were boys, nine of whom had difficulty identifying colors and 22 had difficulties with visual acuity, and a specialist consultation was suggested to carry out additional tests.

Of the 203 girls evaluated, none showed symptoms of difficulty identifying colors, however, 29 of them showed difficulty with visual acuity.

Social Action councilor Maria do Céu Rocha highlights that “the main objective is to promote inclusion and equality and, therefore, we seek an increasingly inclusive school, with equal opportunities for all students”, and this work “ It is, sometimes, the way for some of the children to access the diagnosis, whether of color blindness or even of visual acuity”.
