“Design your house and the fire forest”. It is under this motto that Civil Protection alerts land owners to clean their land, with the legal deadline for this purpose ending within approximately one month, more precisely on April 30th.

Also according to the announcement made by the authorities, “it is mandatory to clean a fuel management strip around buildings”, which is why inspection actions are being carried out by the GNR, in collaboration with the Parish Councils, so that the owners of land that are not yet properly cleaned.

THE CISTER REGION questioned the councilor of Alcobaça City Council responsible for Civil Protection, who demonstrated his satisfaction with the receptiveness of land owners to comply with what is legally mandatory.

“Fortunately, in recent years, land owners have generally complied with their obligations and, in this sense, the likelihood of forest fires has immediately been reduced. Something that, as is evident, is to everyone’s liking, since, especially in the summer, fires represent an enormous danger for the entire population”, analyzed Paulo Mateus.

Also according to the mayor, “the work being carried out by the competent authorities, namely the security forces, aims to raise awareness among land owners so that they comply with the legal deadlines stipulated for the respective cleaning”.

Since the legal obligation for this purpose only ends at the end of next month, Paulo Mateus appeals to all those who have not yet cleaned the fuel management strip around buildings to “do so in the coming weeks”.
