The institution was chosen to receive the solidarity donation from the Congress of the Portuguese Association of Operational Research, which took place recently in Viseu

The Portuguese Association for Developmental Disorders and Autism (APPDA) of Viseu received a donation of 375 euros from the organization of the Congress of the Portuguese Association of Operational Research, which took place between last Sunday and Tuesday (24th to 26th March) at Viseu Higher School of Technology and Management.

The money was raised through donations and sales of CDs from the musical group Bué Animados, linked to APPDA. The check was delivered just a few days before World Autism Awareness Day, which takes place next Tuesday (April 2). The institution will mark the date with a ceremony at 4pm at Rossio.

APPDA Viseu was the institution chosen for the solidarity part of the 23rd Congress of the Portuguese Association of Operational Research, which brought together experts in this area and deepened “knowledge about recent theoretical, methodological and application developments” in this same sector, highlighted the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV).

Operational research is an applied science aimed at solving real problems, which seeks to bring methods from other scientific areas to the field of decision-making.

The local organization of the congress was in charge of five teachers and a student from the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Viseu, ensuring that participants “had the opportunity not only to share scientific knowledge, but also to get to know the city of Viseu and socialize” , added IPV.

The event had as speakers Mara Almeida, councilor of Viseu City Council, and Ine Steenmans, from the University College of London (United Kingdom). Representatives from the National Statistics Institute, Pordata and the company E-Redes were also present at the congress, where they highlighted the importance of making data available to boost research.

The closing session saw the awarding of several prizes, including the APDIO IO 2024 prize for the best doctoral thesis.
