The new Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security has a degree in Law from the Portuguese Catholic University and, until now, was a full professor at the Faculty of Law of Lisbon, in the disciplines of Labor Law and General Theory of Civil Law. Until 2021 she was also vice-president of ISLSSL – International Society for Labor Law and Social Security.

The simplification of the current Labor Code is one of the goals included in the Democratic Alliance’s government program, which indicates that the choice of Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho could contribute to the materialization of this objective. Teleworking legislation was recently the target of comments from the new minister who believes that “diplomas must have a certain reflection”, an implicit criticism of the speed with which these laws were approved by António Costa’s executive.

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security of the XXIV Constitutional Government, who takes office on April 2, is also a consultant to the European Commission in the area of gender equality.
