IO2024 – XXIII Congress of the Portuguese Association of Operational Research was held at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, between the 24th and 26th of March. This congress is a national event that brings together everyone interested in Operational Research, allowing to deepen knowledge about recent theoretical, methodological and application developments in this area.
The local organization was in charge of five teachers and a student from the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Viseu who ensured that participants had the opportunity not only to share scientific knowledge, but also to get to know the city of Viseu and socialize.
The event had as plenary speakers Mara Almeida, councilor at Viseu City Council and Ine Steenmans, from the University College of London. At the round table, with representatives from INE, e-Redes and Pordata, the importance of making data available to boost research was highlighted. The closing session of the congress saw the attribution of several prizes, namely the APDIO IO 2024 prize for the best doctoral thesis, the Augusto Queirós Novais prize for the best article in the area of Process Systems Engineering and the EstudIO prize, sponsored by SISCOG .
The organization of this Congress decided to give it a solidarity character and handed over a check to the Portuguese Association for Developmental Disorders and Autism (APPDA) – Viseu, in the amount of €375. This money was raised through donations and sales of CDs by Bué Animados (a group of young people and children with autism spectrum disorders from APPDA).
