The new road measuring around 2.5 kilometers that the Aveiro City Council designed for the parish of Santa Joana during the time of the socialist Alberto Souto was definitively put in the drawer by the current city council executive, led by Ribau Esteves (PSD/CDS).
At its last meeting, last Thursday, the municipality revoked old council deliberations, as well as other administrative acts, which gave rise to protocols for the transfer of plots for the implementation of the new Santa Joana avenue.
At issue is the road that would connect the old EN109, currently Avenida Europa, off the parish church. The project, however, never got off the ground, despite several steps taken by the municipality.
The current executive is now burying the project once and for all. Last week, Ribau Esteves chronicled the process, which began in 2002. The decision to award the construction work was taken in May 2005, followed by the signing of 13 area transfer protocols in 2006 and 2007.
In August 2008, the council decided to cancel the contract, as the Urbanization Plan for the City of Aveiro, which at the time was in the approval phase by the municipal assembly, «envisaged a different layout geometry, which would imply a profound change in the execution project for the future avenue».
