The Municipal Executive of Braga discusses and votes, on Tuesday, in a meeting, on a proposal to change the Statutes of the Teatro do Circo EM SA Company, which will now adopt the name: Faz Cultura – Empresa Municipal de Cultura de Braga, EM.

The name change, which was approved on March 27 by the Board of Directors and the General Assembly, takes into account that Theatro Circo “has been expanding, in more recent years and in conjunction with its sole shareholder – the Municipality of Braga, its scope of activity and mission”.
And the proposal says: “Its activity goes beyond the management of the Theatro Circo cultural facility, which was at the genesis of its creation. The Company is also responsible for managing the gnration cultural equipment, as well as coordinating projects of strategic interest for the city’s cultural policy, such as Braga Media Arts UNESCO Creative City and Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture” .
These changes – the document continues – “highlighted the need to change the name of this Company, in order, on the one hand, to meet its current activity and, on the other, to overcome the noise in institutional communication enhanced by the similarity of the name of the institution and of the Theatro Circo equipment”.
Faz Cultura’s corporate purpose is the management of cultural facilities Theatro Circo and gnration and the provision of a public service in the field of promotion and artistic creation in the municipality, limited to projects whose management is assigned to it by the Municipality, an example of which is Braga Media Arts, UNESCO Creative City.
The firm can also manage other equipment and develop its activity in other projects that may be assigned to it by the Municipality, defined in the program contract.
The new Statutes also determine that Theatro Circo, the gnration, and other spaces and equipment that, at all times, are assigned to the Company, have artistic autonomy and their own identity.
Within the scope of public service provision, Faz Cultura’s responsibilities include: “Ensuring artistic programming and general management of its own spaces and municipal equipment; Ensure artistic programming and the production of cultural activities and events that fit into the strategic options to support culture and artistic creation, defined by the Municipality, particularly within the scope of strategic positioning initiatives for the city and with national and international impact, such as Braga Media Arts Creative City UNESCO”.

It will also “promote its own artistic productions and participate in co-productions and collaborations, of a cultural and artistic nature, with other entities, public or private, that fall within its corporate purpose; promote the dynamization of the cultural, artistic and creative sector in the municipality of Braga, in the equipment and projects mentioned above; Contribute to the formation of audiences in the areas of participation, promotion of artistic practices and knowledge of performing arts, music and contemporary art;
Finally, it will encourage cultural and artistic exchange at national and international level, in the equipment and projects it is responsible for.
