A tense incident marked this Sunday, in Lisbon, when a 55-year-old soldier was identified and detained by the PSP after threatening a gas station employee with a gun.

The Army has already announced that it will initiate disciplinary proceedings, while the captain waits to be presented to court for first interrogation.

The PSP said that it all started with an argument between the two individuals, culminating in the arrest of the soldier at around 12:00, close to the Galp establishment, located on Avenida Mouzinho de Albuquerque.

The situation became more serious when the agents discovered the weapon that was in the officer’s possession and that it was loaded. The detainee left the gas station on foot and was quickly detained by authorities. During the police approach, there was a need to fire into the air as a precautionary measure, until the officer accepted the order to stop peacefully.

The searches continued at the soldier’s residence, located close to the gas station, where hundreds of ammunition, chargers, a kukri knife and a bag with wrappers were found and seized.

The Army has already issued a statement confirming the soldier’s detention and announced the opening of disciplinary proceedings.

Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the incident that led to a threat with a weapon.
