Hamas apologizes to the people of Gaza and recognizes their “tiredness” | Israel

The Islamist movement Hamas apologized for the first time to the people of Gaza for the suffering caused by the war with Israel, in a long statement published on Sunday night in the Telegram.

In the “message of thanks to the people”, Hamas recognized “the tiredness” of the population with the war, which began after the attack that the movement carried out on October 7 in Israel, with a siege on the territory to which no aid reached sufficient humanitarian aid, which was followed by a land incursion by Israel.

The movement apologized for the difficulties caused, insisting on the measures it said it had tried to put into practice to alleviate the difficulties, for example the attempts to “control the prices” of food, which rose sharply due to the scarcity.

Hamas also stated that it is speaking to the entire society of Gaza, mentioning other armed movements, “popular committees and families”, to “solve the problems caused by the occupation”.

The humanitarian needs are immense in a territory that already before was affected due to an Israeli blockade imposed since 2006, after Hamas’ electoral victory over Fatah – after a struggle, Hamas took power in Gaza the following year and Fatah in the West Bank, a division that continues to this day.

The majority of the population of the Gaza Strip was displaced to the south, around Rafahclose to the border with Egypt.

In recent months, several Hamas figures, such as Khaled Meshaal, former head of bureau politician of the movement, stated that it was necessary to make “sacrifices” for “the liberation” of the Palestinians.

Hunger in the territory is increasingly serious, with cases of people dying trying to get help after a plane has fallen into the sea, and several deaths of malnourished children.

The German diary The Tageszeitung quotes Palestinian Ibrahim Charabischi, who stayed in Gaza City, in the north of the territory, where it is more difficult to get help, because he did not want to leave his parents alone, saying that on some days they try to reach the supplies dropped by planes, but on other days they are too tired “to fight with thousands of people to achieve something”.

Sometimes the family looks for food that may have been left in destroyed houses. “Sometimes we find some flour on the floor, with some sand. We make a sandy bread,” she described.

Israel promised that with this offensive it would “end Hamas”, a mission that has always been classified as practically impossible given the movement’s implantation in Palestinian society. The fact that it carried out a major raid on Al-Shifa Hospital, in Gaza City, which lasted two weeks and which has now ended, where it had already carried out a raid previously, showed that Israel was unable to keep Hamas (and Jihad Islamic, another Islamist movement in the territory) away from places where it already intervened militarily but from where it withdrew the majority of its forces.
