Two people died and 10 were seriously injured in the 827 accidents recorded by the GNR during Operation Easter 2024, which started on Thursday and ends this Monday, according to the provisional report.

In a statement released this Monday, the GNR states that 240 minor injuries were also recorded between 00:00 on Thursday and 23:59 on Sunday.

Of the 22,263 drivers inspected, 303 were driving with excess alcohol and, of these, 165 were arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l.

56 people were also arrested for driving without a legal license, according to the GNR.

In total, the GNR detected 2,913 road traffic offences, 642 for speeding, 455 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 153 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance and 76 for anomalies in lighting and signaling systems.

In the actions carried out by the military from the Territorial Commands and the National Traffic Unit, 69 drivers were also detected using their cell phone incorrectly while driving and 85 cases of missing or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child seats.

The Guard advises attentive, cautious and defensive driving, so that the festive period can be spent safely.

To travel safely during this festive season, the GNR advises, in particular, to “adapt the speed to the weather conditions, the condition of the road and the volume of road traffic” and “avoid maneuvers that could result in traffic obstruction or that, in some way, could lead to accidents”.

He also adds that “he will be particularly concerned about drivers’ risky behavior, especially those that put their safety and that of third parties at risk.”

The Guard’s military personnel will be particularly attentive to dangerous maneuvers, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, speeding, overtaking maneuvers, as well as the improper use of cell phones, failure to use a seat belt and child seat. children and the safety conditions of vehicles.

According to the GNR, the inspection period for greater road patrolling efforts, on the most critical roads, began on Thursday and continues until the end of this Monday.
