Portugal loses to Argentina in the Nations Cup final

Lucas Ordoñez was the man of the match, after scoring two goals against the Portuguese team. It is the fourth time that the Albiceleste team has won the competition

In a repeat of the last three Nations Cup finals, and in which Portugal defended the title, Argentina defeated the Portuguese team 5-2 and won the competition for the fourth time in history.

The team led by Paulo Freitas started the match winning, through Hélder Nunes, and with assistance from Rafa Costa, seven minutes into the first half. But the Argentine response arrived three minutes later. Facu Bridge simulated a shot, passed it to Lucas Martínez, who immediately equalized. And the reaction didn’t stop there. In an individual play, Danilo Rampulla put the Albiceleste team in the lead (13′) and the result remained the same until half-time.

When the match resumed, it was Ordoñez’s turn to extend the South American advantage, after a powerful shot with no chance of defense from Girão. Portuguese hopes resurfaced after a goal from João Rodrigues, who beat Nolito and deflected a pass from Hélder Nunes, as he so often does.

Still, this would be the last time that Portugal would celebrate a goal, unlike Argentina. Facu Navarro once again let his team breathe, with the score 4-2 and Lucas Ordõnez, who still missed a free kick and a rebound against Ângelo Girão, once again rocked the Portuguese net after great work from Lucas Martínez. The Oliveirense player started from the right, crossed and the Benfica player, isolated, just had to touch it.
