The Coimbra Contemporary Art Center opened, last Thursday, March 28, 2024, the sixth exhibition, entitled “On the most invisible side of images”. The inauguration was attended by the president of Coimbra City Council, José Manuel Silva.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, the exhibition’s curator, Daniel Madeira, acknowledged that there was something new at a thematic level, also arguing that this edition of the exhibition starts from a minimalist perspective (a vision of a series of artistic, cultural and scientific movements).

Still responding to the RUC, Daniel Madeira made a reference to the initial role of painting at the beginning of the 20th century, which was later lost to photography. According to the curator of “On the most invisible side of images”, painting was used to portray the real, great war moments and the coronation of kings, but with the potential of photography, painting fell into crisis.

Daniel Madeira recognized that the Coimbra Contemporary Art Center is located in a strategic location, having the power to attract tourists. He also assured that any tourist, on their journey, seeks to visit the city’s cultural center. For him, all large cities should have a Contemporary Art Center

The exhibition, which will be on view until June 23rd, features works from the State’s Contemporary Art collection and the Norlinda and José Lima Collection, reaffirming the importance of private collections. The exhibition was curated by José Maçãs de Carvalho, the curator of the Centro Arte Contemporânea do Estado and Daniel Madeira.
