Families in need in the municipality of Lamego who have companion animals will now have free veterinary care, the city council of that city announced this Monday in a statement.

“In a context of economic difficulties, families often no longer have the capacity to guarantee essential goods and services for their animals, namely medical and veterinary treatments”, states the municipal executive.

In the press release, Cêmara, led by Francisco Lopes, considers that these “economic difficulties greatly contribute to the growth of animal abandonment”.

In this sense, the Municipal Council of Lamego, in the north of the district of Viseu, initiated the project that integrates the Municipal Regulation for the Promotion of Animal Welfare, which includes other measures.

Thus, “needy families in the municipality of Lamego with companion animals are now entitled to free veterinary care”, simply by filling out a form to apply for support.

In addition, it is necessary to send documents such as the last IRS declaration and respective assessment note, photocopy of the Identity Card or Citizen Card and proof of residence.

Proof of bank identification (IBAN) and the invoice associated with the veterinary expense must also be sent to the email [email protected].

“The Animal Welfare Plan of the Municipality of Lamego has a set of initiatives in place that aims to support the most disadvantaged families so that they can ensure health care for their animals, combat abandonment and promote responsible adoption”, he adds.
