Four people died and 23 were seriously injured in more than 1,600 accidents recorded by the Republican National Guard (GNR) during Operation Easter 2024, according to a provisional report released this Tuesday.

In a statement, the GNR informs that in Operation Easter 2024, which took place between March 25th and April 1st, 1,647 accidents were recorded, resulting in four deaths, 23 serious injuries and 442 minor injuries.

During the operation there was an intensification of patrolling and actions throughout the national territory, during which 42,315 drivers were inspected, of which 427 were driving with excess alcohol in their blood. Of these, 224 were detained for presenting a rate equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l.

The provisional balance indicates that 108 people were also arrested for driving without a legal license.

In the same period, 6,592 road infractions were detected, 1,453 for speeding, 1,012 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 297 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance and 230 for anomalies in lighting and signaling systems.

The GNR recorded 199 cases of improper use of cell phones while driving and 180 situations of missing or incorrect use of seat belts and/or child seats.

With regard to combating and preventing crime, the GNR arrested 24 people for drug trafficking, 28 for theft and nine for illegal possession of weapons and prohibited weapons.

During the period of Operation Easter 2024, the military carried out a series of actions that focused on personal contact with 305 elderly people who live alone and/or isolated, in order to raise awareness and alert them to the adoption of safety behaviors to reduce the risk of becoming victims of crime.
