Works on the old Barros School and more social housing

-

Work will advance on the former Escola de Barros, in Estela. At the last meeting, the executive approved the award of the work, budgeted at 1.6 million euros. The old primary school will have a daycare center and an occupational center for the elderly, which will be the third in the municipality, after the Lapa and Aver-o-Mar Occupational Centers. The undertaking, explained the vice-president of the Chamber, Luís Diamantino, will take 14 months.

Regarding works, an amendment to the Local Housing Strategy (ELH) was also approved. In Barreiros, 48 homes will be built instead of the planned 46 homes and an additional 32 homes will be added in Mariadeira, on land that the Chamber acquired from Beneficente. This means that the number of houses foreseen in the ELH, intended for rent by needy families, goes from 151 to 185. These will then be joined by 150 homes for sale at controlled costs, to be built next to EB 2,3 Cego do Maio.

Between works in social neighborhoods, new homes for rent and housing for sale at lower prices, ELH in Póvoa de Varzim foresees an investment of more than 27 million euros.

The statements can be heard in the local edition.
