More than 400 thousand euros are needed to “save” the Anta Grande do Zambujeiro, warned the president of Évora City Council, Carlos Pinto de Sá.

Speaking to ‘ODigital.pt, Carlos Pinto de Sá began by warning that the Anta Grande do Zambujeiro “is at risk”, leaving “a cry of warning”, in “particular to political power”.

The mayor explained that “the Anta is on private property, and in recent times it has been possible to have some contact with the owners and some availability on the part of the owners to collaborate with the Chamber and the Regional Directorate of Culture and we made an application to seek to find financing for be able to safeguard the Anta do Zambujeiro, but unfortunately this application was rejected and there is no prospect of funding to be able to intervene in the Anta.”

For Carlos Pinto de Sá “the Anta is at risk and it is absolutely urgent that there is funding and in this case the State has an absolutely essential role in providing the necessary funds to be able to carry out this recovery”.

“There must be a cry of warning here, but also of commitment, so that we can stir the national conscience, naturally with the Government and the State, so that there is an intervention at this level to safeguard our historic and essential heritage for know our past and project our future”, he stressed.

Asked about how much will be needed, in terms of financing, to save Ana Grande do Zambujeiro, the mayor of Eborense stated that “probably at this moment the amount will be around 400 thousand euros”, adding that “it was an estimated value about three or four years ago and I am giving a value that perhaps comes close to what the current value is, but naturally the fundamental idea here is to be able to find, to be able to have the political will to intervene.”

Carlos Pinto de Sá concluded by saying that “there is a lot of heritage that needs to be intervened and recovered, but priorities have to be defined and Anta Grande Zambujeiro will necessarily be one of the first priorities, if not the first priority, given the importance it has in the national context and International.”
